About Us

Tier Energy was founded in 2016 by Ali Zain Banatwala, CEO and Principal Consultant. Ali Zain holds Masters Degrees in Finance (London Business School) and in Electrical Power Systems (University of Bath). He has twelve years of progressive industry experience including eight years at E.ON, Germany’s largest power and gas utility.

Power Systems — Asian Development Bank

Tier Energy was selected by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to develop a fifteen-year roadmap for Smart Grids in Pakistan. The study was presented to the Ministry of Water & Power in December 2016, and several follow-up projects are being developed from its recommendations. These include a wide-area monitoring system (a PMU-based sensor network for extra-high-voltage lines), advanced dispatch-optimization algorithms at the National Power Control Centre, real-time analysis of dynamic stability of the transmission system, distribution automation, and grid integration of distributed renewable energy sources.

Logistics — Daewoo Express

Daewoo Express operates Pakistan’s largest inter-city bus network, with three hundred buses making five hundred daily departures. Tier Energy is working with Daewoo Express to optimize fleet operations. Vehicle routing and scheduling algorithms have been designed to minimize fuel consumption and reduce vehicle standby times while taking operational and economic constraints into account. A graphic user interface supports both daily operations and strategic planning. Tier Energy is also working on optimizing Daewoo’s cargo operations.
